The Tenwek Residency programs address one of the greatest challenges in African health care: an insufficient number of doctors to treat patients and train new physicians, particularly African general surgeons who are committed to serving Christ through their career in surgery.
Graduates of Tenwek’s programs are asked to serve in rural areas where medical resources are limited. Some have provided critical service in Tenwek’s outpatient department, in operating rooms as anesthetists, and in the ophthalmology department. Others now serve at various levels in government, private, and mission hospitals in Kenya and beyond.
Tenwek partners with the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS), a commission of the CMDA, to provide academic oversight and support. The hospital also is affiliated with the College of Surgeons of East, Central, and Southern Africa (COSECSA), a regional surgical credentialing body committed to development of surgery in East Africa.
