Through the three-and-a-half-year program, female and male students from throughout Kenya are trained in the areas of general nursing, midwifery, community nursing and very soon, trauma and cardiac profusion. Students participate in classroom training, augmented by access to a fully-equipped practice lab where they demonstrate and improve their skills.
All nursing students also participate in small discipleship groups to help them grow in their Christian faith, knowledge, and practice. This emphasis on spiritual development equips the nurses to provide spiritual care for their patients – a hallmark of the Tenwek Hospital mission.
The Nursing School is staffed by missionary nurses and Kenyan nurses who have previously earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Many members of the Kenyan staff also are working toward their master’s degrees.
