The Ebola outbreak in Eastern Africa has prompted Tenwek Hospital to review and assess the protocols currently used to diagnose and treat infectious diseases. Though there is no natural travel pattern from the affected areas to Kenya, Tenwek is using the outbreak to evaluate its preparation for and treatment of a number of contagions, including Ebola.

A special task force has been appointed, under the direction of Dr. Aaron Kelley, an emergency/casualty physician. Based on his expertise and CDC guidelines, the team has compiled a list of equipment and supplies the hospital needs to treat patients presenting with infectious disease and is arranging for the acquisition of these materials. The task force also is planning to provide information about Ebola symptoms and protocols/precautions to surrounding communities.
